UPCOMING DATES
April 5: Day After Easter
Whether your children are doing in-person, virtual, hybrid, or home schooling, Ijams’ NEW Single-Day School Break Camps are a fantastic resource for working families. These camps follow much the same format as Ijams’ weeklong camps, including optional extended-care sessions. Activities offered during each camp vary based on the season, but they ensure that campers will have adventures and make memories to last a lifetime! Ijams’ Single-Day School Break Camps are on many dates that Knox County Schools are not in session.
Ring in the New Year with Nature
Last Day of Winter Break
Jan. 4, 2021
9 am-4 pm
What better way is there to kick off the New Year than by being outside with friends? Join Ijams educators and other campers for a day devoted to trying new outdoor pursuits, developing new rhythms in nature, and discovering new ways that the world around us is connected to annual cycles.
Share Your Giving Nature
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Jan. 18, 2021
9 am-4 pm
MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer and improve their communities. During this day off from school, campers are invited to put on their work gloves and give back to nature! Campers will assist with natural resource management projects, engage in citizen science programs, and participate in fun activities to learn the importance of caring for the natural world.
Natural Leaders
Presidents' Day
Feb. 15, 2021
9 am-4 pm
Honey bees have queens. Chickadees alert other creatures when danger is near. Geese flying in a v-shaped formation follow those in front of them. Leadership is a skill set that can be possessed by humans and other animals! Campers will learn what leadership looks like in the natural world and develop their own leadership skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and collaboration through teambuilding and other group activities.
Cycles Make the World Go Round
Day After Easter
April 5, 2021
9 am-4 pm
Day becomes night and then day; winter transitions to spring, then summer, then fall, and back to winter; and life leads to death, which leads to life again. Many events in nature are cyclical and make the world go round. Campers will discover patterns and stages in animal growth, explore ways that water moves, and learn about other natural processes that repeat themselves. Through direct experiences, games, crafts, and experiments, nature’s cycles will come alive for campers!
