Policies

Ijams Is a Place for Everyone to Enjoy!

IJAMS NATURE CENTER RULES

​

So all may enjoy their visit:

​

  • Please stay on the trails

  • Use caution near steep slopes and water

  • Please don’t pick, remove or add plants/wildlife

  • Animals/pets must be leashed at all times (Knox County Leash Law)

  • No private boats (includes canoes, hard-bodied or inflatable kayaks, paddleboards or anything with a motor) in Mead’s Quarry Lake (boat rentals only)

  • No jumping off rocks

  • No diving in swimming area

  • No grills or open fires, fireworks, or bonfires

  • No smoking, vaping, or glass containers

  • No balloons, confetti, silly string, or glitter

  • No loud music

  • No paintball games

  • No skateboarding

  • Mountain bikes may be used only on designated trails

  • No motorized vehicles on any trails

  • Road bikes may be used only on paved trails or greenway

  • No alcoholic beverages are allowed unless provided by an Ijams-approved vendor and consumed within designated areas

  • Firearms, including handguns, are prohibited in all buildings at Ijams Nature Center. Handguns carried by handgun permit holders are allowed on the grounds; all other firearms are prohibited

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY

Ijams Nature Center welcomes the opportunity to host photographers and their clients. The nature center invests substantial funding and effort each year to ensure that this beautiful natural space is maintained for the general public. In order to effectively manage the commercial use Ijams' natural resources, Ijams Nature Center has established a Professional Photography Policy.

For the purposes of this policy, a professional photographer is defined as someone who is being paid to take photographs on Ijams property.

​

In order to use Ijams Nature Center as a location for commercial photography, you must: (1) familiarize yourself with Ijams' Professional Photography Policy HERE; (2) sign the Photo Policy Agreement HERE; and (3) either bring the signed forms to the front desk during normal business hours or email them to Katie Brittian at kbrittian@ijams.org. At that point you will have to pay for your pass via Square. You are NOT allowed to do your photo shoot unless you have paid for your single day pass or a yearly pass. â€‹

PERMIT PROGRAM POLICY

​

Ijams Nature Center experiences high demand for use of the property by a variety of commercial and nonprofit entities. In order to effectively manage the commercial and nonprofit use of the trails, parking lots, and facilities,
Ijams Nature Center has established a Permit Program Policy that applies to events, sessions, workshops, etc., that are led by instructors other than Ijams staff, volunteers, and/or vendors, and take place on any Ijams Nature Center property.

 

In order to host a program at Ijams Nature Center, you must: (1) familiarze yourself with Ijams' Permit Program Policy HERE(2) sign the Permit Program Policy Agreement HERE​; and (3) submit completed agreements to Katie Brittian at kbrittian@ijams.org or at the Visitor Center during normal business hours.

All Permit Program Applications undergo review prior to approval. Once a Permit Program is approved, you will receive an invoice for payment. 

​

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
 

Ijams reserves the right to deny access to the grounds to anyone (including members) if their photo shoot or permit program conflicts with other scheduled events. Those renting the grounds for special events receive priority.
