Ijams Is a Place for Everyone to Enjoy!


So all may enjoy their visit:

  • Please stay on the trails

  • Use caution near steep slopes and water

  • Please don’t pick, remove or add plants/wildlife

  • Animals/pets must be leashed at all times (Knox County Leash Law)

  • No private boats in Mead’s Quarry Lake (boat rentals only)

  • No jumping off rocks

  • No diving in swimming area

  • No grills or open fires, fireworks, or bonfires

  • No balloons, confetti, silly string, or glitter

  • No loud music

  • No paintball games

  • No skateboarding

  • Mountain bikes may be used only on designated trails

  • Road bikes may be used only on paved trails or greenway

  • No alcoholic beverages are allowed unless provided by an Ijams-approved vendor and consumed within designated areas

  • Firearms, including handguns, are prohibited in all buildings at Ijams Nature Center. Handguns carried by handgun permit holders are allowed on the grounds; all other firearms are prohibited



Ijams Nature Center welcomes the opportunity to host photographers and their clients. The nature center invests substantial funding and effort each year to ensure that this beautiful natural space is maintained for the general public.

For the purposes of this policy, a professional photographer is defined as someone who is being paid to take photographs on Ijams property.

Professional photographers who wish to use the Ijams grounds for commercial use are required to purchase a one-day pass for $30 or an annual pass for $100.* These funds directly support the maintenance and development of the property. One-year photo passes must be current and renewed annually.


Fees may be paid by check or credit card. To pay by credit card, please come to the Visitor Center during regular operating hours and pay at the front desk or provide payment information to Visitor Services Coordinator Madison Adler at 865-577-4717. To pay by check made payable to Ijams Nature Center, bring it to the Visitor Center or mail it to:

Upon receipt of pass fees, Ijams will issue an ID card to the photographer that should be worn at all times while working with clients on the property.

All photographers must sign in at the Visitor Center upon arrival.


Ijams Nature Center requires the location credit Ijams Nature Center, Knoxville, TN in all commercial uses of images taken on the property.


The following items are prohibited on the premises: rice, confetti, glitter, peanut shells, fireworks, silly string, balloons, bonfires, Styrofoam products, and grills. Candles must be in enclosed, approved containers. Enclosed fire pits must be approved by the Visitor Services Coordinator prior to your event.


Ijams reserves the right to deny access to the grounds for photography purposes to anyone (including members), if the photo shoot conflicts with other scheduled events. Those renting the grounds for special events receive priority.

* If private space is needed for changing clothes, makeup application, or storage, an additional rental fee may be required. Please schedule photo shoots with the Rentals Coordinator, Katie Brittian (865-577-4717, ext. 1011 or, to ensure your location is available on your preferred date and time.
