About the Event
Join Ijams to celebrate the newest house on the block, the Ijams Bat House! Groups will begin with a short guided walk at Mead’s Quarry. Along the way, Ijams naturalists will share insights about local bat species, their habitats, and how human activity impacts these essential creatures. The walk will lead to the highlight of the tour: the newly completed bat house, perched above Mead’s Quarry’s historic lime kilns. Finished in spring 2025, this impressive 10’x12’ structure is designed to house over 100,000 Mexican free-tailed bats! These insect-eating bats now form year-round colonies in our area, making this bat house an innovative part of local conservation efforts.
Don’t miss your chance to celebrate conservation and partnerships in action, view the new house up close, and learn about how our community is helping protect wildlife. Participants should meet next to the River Sports Outfitters building at Mead's Quarry.
