About the Event

**NOTE: This session is limited. If you are not registered for this event, you will be asked to volunteer another time.

Join Ijams Nature Center's Natural Resource Team for a Weed Warriors workday to help Knoxville Re-Animation Coalition restore Citizens Cemetery, Knoxville's oldest Black cemetery!

Volunteers will park at 2226 Cityview Ave., Knoxville, TN 37915 and take a short walk to meet at 9:30 a.m. at the cemetery on Fuller Ave., where it intersects with Sanders Ln. and Addison St. Wear closed-toed shoes, long-sleeved shirts and pants to protect yourself from thorns and poison ivy. Wear layers and bring a jacket if it's cold. BRING WATER!

Ijams Weed Warriors workdays are designed to give volunteers hands-on experience with invasive species removal techniques and expand their knowledge of invasive plants, their history and impact on native habitats, native replacement options, and more. This program is made possible by the Aslan Foundation.

Please bring the following: water, appropriate clothing/footwear, and a mask if you have one (the Ijams Visitor Center has simple disposable masks if you come without one). Masks will only be necessary when we are within six feet of each other. If you are exhibiting any sign of fever or illness, do not participate in this workday. Tools and gloves will be provided.

Meeting Spot: Eastport Cemetery (Citizens Cemetery)

1038 Fuller Ave. Knoxville, TN 37915

Those who are under 16 years old cannot volunteer by themselves at Ijams; they must be accompanied by an adult for all volunteer opportunities.

Those who are 16 & 17 can participate in public volunteer workdays as long as they have a parent's or guardian's permission. Please email sshorey@ijams.org for the permission sheet. Thank you!
