About the Event
**NOTE: This session is limited to 15 participants. If you are not registered and there are 15 participants, you will be asked to come another time or will be given a different assignment.
While English ivy is considered a traditional ornamental and is still widely planted in landscapes, it's considered a nonnative, invasive species in East Tennessee. Invasive species can harm native plants and animals, destroy biodiversity, and permanently alter habitats.
Help fight this foe! Meet the Ijams Natural Resource Management team at the main overflow parking lot across the street from the Ijams Visitor Center by 9:30 am and then hike over to Dunn Street, where you'll help remove English ivy from the hill.
Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes, long-sleeved shirts, and pants to protect themselves from thorns and poison ivy. BRING WATER! Tools and gloves will be provided.
Meeting Spot: Ijams Nature Center Overflow Lot (across the street from the Visitor Center main parking lot)
2915 Island Home Ave. Knoxville, TN 37920
Those who are under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult for all volunteer opportunities. Those who are 16 and 17 can participate in public volunteer workdays as long as they have a parent's or guardian's permission. Please email sshorey@ijams.org for the permission sheet. Thank you!
Ijams Weed Warriors workdays are designed to give volunteers hands-on experience with invasive species removal techniques, expand their knowledge of invasive plants, learn about native replacement options, and more. This program is made possible by Aslan Foundation.
