Ijams Insect Safari (Family Programs)

Geared Towards: Families with kids ages 5-13

Description: Prepare to venture to a strange world inhabited by alien creatures! No, not Mars—you and an Ijams naturalist will enter the amazing world of insects. These creatures hide in every habitat at Ijams, and we’re going to find them all. You’ll learn to net, sweep, and literally beat the bushes for every insect you can imagine, as well as learn to identify key insect characteristics and how insects adapt depending on their habitat. Nets and collection boxes will be provided. All insects will be released at the end of the program.

Information to note: Insects tend to be most active during the heat of the day and participants will be capturing insects in a meadow. Shade will be limited, so prepare to be warm. This program will meet at the Ijams Visitor Center.

Materials to wear/bring: Participants should wear closed-toed shoes and bring sunscreen, water, hats and sunglasses.

No walk-in’s will be accepted.

Every participant must have a ticket.

Children under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Ijams awards full refunds for any cancellations up to 7 days before a program, or if Ijams cancels a program due to severe weather. Refunds are not awarded for programs with fees of $5 or less for any reason. Tickets are non-transferable.
