HF Event: Dragons and Damsels: Life on the Wing

Hummingbirds aren’t the only quick fliers at Ijams! Flying insects come in all shapes and sizes and can be found in almost any habitat where they serve as both prey for other animals and vicious predators of the insect world. Join a whimsical exploration of the Ijams grounds to find, catch, and observe a wide variety of insect aviators!

NOTE: This program will involve slowly hiking on paved and unpaved trails near the Ijams Visitor Center and the Miller Building on the Ijams Homesite, up to 1 mile in total length. You will use sweep nets to capture insects and various tools to observe them.

Space is limited. Preregistration required. Participants will meet at the Plaza Pavilion across from the Universal Pond at the Visitor Center. Ijams will provide equipment to catch and observe insects. Participants should bring water, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and a hands-free way to carry these items.
