About the Event
Cyanotype is a photographic printing process invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842. A combination of light sensitive salts: ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide is applied to paper. After it dries, it is exposed in the sun to produce a cyan-blue print. It was first used to make architecture blueprints. Anna Atkins, a botanist created a series of
books documenting ferns and seaweed by placing specimens on coated paper to create a photogram. These books are in museums around the world today. She is considered to be the first female photographer.
In this workshop, you will learn more about the cyanotype process, how to mix cyanotype chemicals, coat paper and create prints using botanicals, and found objects. All materials and supplies are provided.
Cost: $50 ($40 for Ijams and A1Labarts members) Class size 10.
