About the Event

THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELED FOR SEPTEMBER 17

Join Riley Douglas of the Museum of Infinite Outcomes at Ijams Nature Center for an all-inclusive eco-printing class!

Participants will learn a technique of eco-printing that transfers plant color and shape onto cloth.  This class will play with fresh flowers from botanical gardens around Knoxville; feel free to bring flowers from your garden! This class will be great for creative folks, gardeners, and anyone who loves color and flowers.  Could you stop and smell the flowers, think about color, and smash blooms into beautiful silk scarves? This class will cover flower gardening, botanical identification, tools and tips of the trade for sustainable foraging, and fun flower facts.

Riley’s practice delves into the history of Appalachian craft and building natural dye gardens. She is a Board Member of the Museum of Infinite Outcomes and a certified Master Gardener from The University of Tennessee, specializing in growing, harvesting, and manipulating dye plants. Riley’s personal and professional practices focus on a maker’s role in creating sustainable methodologies and lifestyles. During the pandemic, she took on a new project of serving with Knoxville Community Development Corporation as Knoxville Community Development Coordinator, working with low-income and elderly housing to teach garden-to-table gardening and creative workshops like dyeing with kitchen scraps and container gardening for your health.

All supplies are included. Tickets are $95 for this four-hour workshop. This is a beginner level course, no previous experience required. The workshop will take place at Ijams Visitor Center, and weather-permitting, it will be outdoors.

Ages 16 and up are welcome. Participants under 18 years old must have an accompanying adult. Snacks and drinks are welcome!

Pre-registration is required.
