About the Event
Geared for: This program is appropriate for all ages, but geared towards ages 10+.
Description: Weighing less than two dimes, ruby-throated hummingbirds are a wonder. They spend their summers with us but migrate to Central America in the fall. So with such high-energy lives, how do you study their life habits? Join senior naturalist Stephen Lyn Bales as he relates what we know about hummingbirds and how they are banded through a series of photographs. You'll also walk outside in search of hummingbirds. This program leads up to the Ijams Hummingbird Festival: a Celebration of Wings, where you'll see birds banded and more, on Saturday, Aug. 13!
Materials Participants Should Bring: Comfortable shoes, weather appropriate clothing, and all your questions about hummingbirds.
Program Duration: 6-8 pm - 2+ hours of indoor and outdoor learning
Location: This program meets at the Ijams Nature Center Visitor Center.
Every participant must have a ticket. Ijams awards full refunds for any cancellations up to 7 days before a program, or if Ijams cancels a program due to inclement weather. Refunds are not awarded for programs with fees of $5 or less for any reason. Tickets are non-transferable.
