About the Event
**NOTE: This session is limited to 15 participants. If you are not registered and there are 15 participants, you will be asked to come another time or will be given a different assignment.
It's time to tackle wisteria at Stanton Cemetery! Meet the Ijams Natural Resource Management team at the Mead's Quarry parking lot by 9:30 am, then hike to Tharp Trace to fight this aggressive invasive vine. (This plant behaves a lot like Devil's Snare for you Harry Potter enthusiasts!) The goal of this workday is to save native trees by cutting these vines out and away from them, as well as to free the ground from their entanglement. The hike up Tharp Trace is steep and the work can be laborious, so please come prepared.
Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes, long-sleeved shirts, and pants to protect themselves from thorns and poison ivy. BRING WATER! Tools and gloves will be provided. (Halloween costumes encouraged!)
Meeting Spot: Mead's Quarry Parking Lot (Ijams Adventure Camp), 3518 Island Home Ave. Knoxville, TN 37920
Those who are under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult for all volunteer opportunities. Those who are 16 and 17 can participate in public volunteer workdays as long as they have a parent's or guardian's permission. Please email sshorey@ijams.org for the permission sheet. Thank you!
