About the Event
**NOTE: This session is limited to 15 participants. If you are not registered and there are 15 participants, you will be asked to come another time or will be given a different assignment.
If trail-building interests you, volunteer for this workday! Meet the Ijams Natural Resource Management team at Mead's Quarry Adventure Camp by 9:30 am and then hike to Tharp Trace Trail to build a new section of trail to replace the current, eroded trail. Gloves and tools will be provided, but please wear closed-toed shoes, pants, and long-sleeved shirts (protection from thorns and poison ivy). This type of work is VERY labor-intensive, so be prepared and BRING LOTS OF WATER!
Please bring the following: water, appropriate clothing/footwear, and a mask if you have one (the Ijams Visitor Center has simple disposable masks if you come without one). Masks will only be necessary when volunteers are within six feet of each other. If you are exhibiting any sign of fever or illness, do not participate in this workday. Tools and gloves will be provided.
Meeting Spot: Mead's Quarry Parking Lot (Adventure Camp)
3518 Island Home Ave. Knoxville, TN 37920
Those who are under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult for all volunteer opportunities. Those who are 16 and 17 can participate in public volunteer workdays as long as they have a parent's or guardian's permission. Please email sshorey@ijams.org for the permission sheet. Thank you!
