About the Event
Join H.A.L.T ( Humans and Animals Learning Together) at Ijams Nature Center on September 15 from 1-3pm outside of the visitor center. Come out to meet their newest recruits who will be participating in class this session. They are looking for their furever homes! Â
Humans and Animals Learning Together founded in 1987 through a partnership with the U.T. College of Veterinary Medicine, H.A.L.T provides a therapeutic intervention for at-risk adolescents through dog obedience training. Through the four-week course, volunteers help teen trainers teach basic obedience to the dogs. The trainers are adolescents from residential centers, and may be there for treatment of substance or physical abuse, behavioral, or alienation problems.Â
Dogs are adopted into suitable homes at the end of the class session.Â
This session includes Espresso, Gadget, Hogan, and URL (pronounced Earl!).
The dogs are medically and behaviorally screened, given a standard series of vaccinations, neutered or spayed, micro-chipped, and boarded at the class site. They are accepting applications and will work on home visits while classes are going on. All dogs will be able to go to their new homes after graduations.
All breeds and ages are the best guess from our Dog Selection Committee and Veterinarian.
