About the Event
Recommended for ages 18 and up
Description: Learn 10 spring wildflowers and plant foods that you can find almost anywhere! Join the Ijams Education Director for a class to help you learn how to locate and identify many of the delicious edible plants growing wild in your community. You'll leave this program with new skills on basic plant identification, techniques for foraging and using spring edibles, and a new understanding of wild plant nutrition and medicinal benefits hidden all around us.
Materials Participants Should Bring: Walking shoes, long pants, a journal to draw and take notes, clothes for rain or cold, water bottle, sunscreen (NOTE: We will be close to plants and their pollen-y parts, walking through fields with critters in them, and near muddy, uneven surfaces)
Information to Note: Participants should be prepared to go off trail and into the mud to overturn rocks and logs.
Location: This program meets outside the Ijams Visitor Center, and spends the entire program outside investigating plants on Ijams trails.Â
No walk-ins will be accepted. Every participant must have a ticket. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Ijams awards full refunds for any cancellations up to 7 days before a program, or if Ijams cancels a program due to inclement weather. Refunds are not awarded for programs with fees of $5 or less for any reason. Tickets are non-transferable.
