About the Event
Join Ijams Nature Center and The Big Camera on March 17 from 12-2 pm in a creative celebration to honor one of the first female photographers, Anna Atkins.
In the early days of photography, Anna Atkins was an English botanist who made Cyanotypes to document her botanical collections and created one of the first illustrated books. She is considered to be the first female photographer. Her books are in the British Museum and collections around the world.
The cyanotype process uses the sun and a combination of light sensitive salts to make a print. As part of this Creative Series event, you will learn to make a cyanotype bookmark using local plants and flowers and learn more about this amazing woman.
The community event is free but registration is required. All ages are welcome.
“Botanical Connections 2024” is sponsored by a generous grant from the East Tennessee Foundations.
