Memorial and Honorariums

New Beginnings 

Memorial and honorarium contributions benefit Ijams' quality environmental education programs, 275 acre wildlife sanctuary and care of our non-releasable animals.

If you would like to recognize remarkable people in your life, consider a memorial or honorarium donation to Ijams Nature Center. Memorial or honorarium donations allow you to recognize special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, or to memorialize a loved one who is no longer with us. When a donation is made, we will send a card to the person you designate informing him or her of your thoughtful gift. The gift amount is kept confidential.

 

JANE CROUCH WILLIAMS MEMORIAL

Jane was a dear friend to Ijams Nature Center. As a young girl growing up in the 1930s, Jane visited the Ijams Bird Sanctuary with her father Brockway Crouch many times. Brockway was a renowned ornithologist, pioneering hiker and explorer in the Great Smoky Mountains as well as a talented florist and dog breeder.  One of Brockway's closest friends was H.P. Ijams who together founded the East tennessee Ornithological Society in 1924. Crouch was also a founding member of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club the same year. 

Before Jane passed away on Monday, January 16, 2011 she was proud of a new visual history book about her father (containing many rare photographs of Crouch and fellow hikers including Carlos Campbell, Dutch Roth and Jim Thompson) which she collaborated with author and Executive Director of Ijams, Paul James.
