This month, the 2006 Winter Olympic Games take place in Torino, Italy. No doubt many of you will be tuning in to watch what will surely be another awe-inspiring exhibition of incredible human talent on snow and ice. Aside from all the outdoor action, many of the Olympic support staff will also be busy trading pins! Yes, Olympic pin trading is more popular than ever before.

"What has Olympic pin trading got to do with a nature center?" you ask. Well, my wife Julie James, a longtime broadcasting professional, will be over in Torino working for the Torino Olympic Broadcasting Organization during the games. At the same time, over in Mexico, the Whooping Crane Recovery Team will be reviewing Ijams' Olympic-style bid to bring endangered whooping cranes to Knoxville. It's all about timing, so they say, so we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to combine these two events to generate both awareness and support for Ijams and endangered cranes throughout the world in an international setting. We have produced a special limited edition Ijams whooping crane pin that Julie will trade in Torino. In addition, watch for Julie on WBIR Channel 10 as she'll be doing some remote reporting during the games.

Please consider supporting us in this unique, one-time only opportunity. To participate, all you need to do is simply sponsor Julie to trade as many Ijams whooping crane pins as she can during the winter Olympic games. The more pins Julie trades the more awareness she generates for Ijams, Knoxville and crane conservation worldwide. Simply download, complete and return the enclosed sponsorship form to Ijams or email me at pjames@ijams.org. Pledge $25 or more and receive your very own Olympic Whooping Crane Pin in return. Pins will be mailed upon receipt of donation. (Actual pin size is 1" in diameter.) Thank you for supporting Ijams and spreading awareness of the plight of endangered species throughout the world.
