Artfully Ijams: Spring 2006 Nature Art Show and Auction

Monday January 09, 2006
Ijams is planning a brand new event; we want you to take part! Read here for more information or to download your Artist's Entry Form.

Ijams is planning to host its very first nature and wildlife art show in April. Artfully Ijams has been designed as an art show and auction fundraiser for Ijams with a portion of the proceeds this year benefiting One Ton.

One Ton is an ongoing series that fosters community involvement through the use of Tennessee's own pink marble in the creation and display of public art. The location for One Ton's annual show this year will be at Ijams' Mead's Quarry site. You may have already seen a couple of stones from previous shows there. This year, in order to better highlight the unique artistry of One Ton, only two dimensional art submissions to Artfully Ijams will be  accepted.

The theme for the show is nature and wildlife with special consideration given to art that features threatened, endangered and extinct species of North America such as the ivory-billed woodpecker, passenger pigeon and Carolina parakeet. The tie-in with our forthcoming new exhibits in June is intentional!

I hope you will agree that this show will be a welcome addition to the Ijams calendar. It will be a juried show; we are seeking quality artists who will set their own minimum price and then Ijams will set a higher opening bid amount for the auction fundraiser on Saturday April 29. Further details on the event will be shared at a later date.

If you are an artist please consider participating, especially in the threatened, endangered or extinct species category. If you know of any good artist then please pass this news along. We hope that artists will discover the wonders of these special species and their unique stories. All styles and mediums are accepted.  Personally, I would like to see an Ivory-bill painted in the style of Salvador Dali, but we shall see!
