From the Ground Up: Recycle Your Tree at Ijams

Monday December 26, 2005
Whether you're considering taking your tree to the dump or just might leave it up until St. Patrick's day, read this.

Ijams is an official Knox County Christmas Tree Recycling site again this year. We collect the trees at Ijams starting on the day after Christmas until the end of January.  Recyclers can drop their tree off during park hours every day from 8 a.m. until dark.  Trees should be deposited in the area near the blue Dumpster that sits on the driveway to the Miller building. Just turn into Ijams’ parking lot and take a left, you can’t miss it!  Please make sure that all ornaments and tinsel have been removed from the tree.                                                                                                                                                             Ijams uses the donated trees to fulfill its mission to protect and preserve the native flora and fauna of East Tennessee. We will be using the trees for a number of projects.  Whole trees are piled up along the trails to create places for birds and animals to refuge from the cold.  We also use a wood chipper to grind up trees for mulch to acidify our garden soils.  We appreciate the donation of your used tree.  It helps Ijams’ visitors as well as its creatures to enjoy their time at the park.
