Community support around the park

Special thanks to all who donated time and money

The Knox County Parks and Recreation Department installed space heaters in the outdoor restroom facility, located behind the Miller Education Building at the Ijams homesite. This upgrade allows the water to remain on year round and provides amenities to our visitors when the Visitor Center is closed. We are grateful for their help and expertise.

Raven and Jacob Caldwell donated a 425-gallon water tank for use with our ram water pump project at Mead's Quarry. We plan to order the pump and have a working irrigation system completed by springtime. Special thanks to all and especially David and Mary Ann Piper for generously responding to the well pump appeal.

Denton's Hardwood Flooring made a generous in-kind contribution of hardwood floor refinishing at the Miller Education Building. The oak floors look wonderful and there was very little dust due to their new dust entrapment equipment. We appreciate their support of our summer camp program.

The Peninsula Village Youth group created a garden area and brick terrace at Mead's Quarry. The new garden replaced a dilapidated foundation that we removed from the location. We thank them for their continued volunteer service.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service grant we received to remove invasive species within the park is being partially matched by in-kind volunteer service.  Boy Scout Troop 179, Troop 6 and Troop 442 have helped remove invasive exotic species including privet hedge and shrub honeysuckle from three acres of forest. Students from The Webb School's seventh and eighth grades also removed exotics from one acre. We appreciate their efforts and teamwork to improve the health of the environment.
