Ijams' Prius gets eye-popping 'blue-sky' makeover

Education vehicle promotes the hybrid technology

Our Toyota Prius has had a makeover. The new "blue-sky" hybrid was featured on WBIR's "Live at Five" on Monday, July 2. It now will be seen around town, at schools, local businesses and at Ijams. As part of the Living Clean & Green! series of programs, Ijams will be using the eye-catching Prius to promote the importance of hybrid technology in helping improve our local air quality. Drop by Ijams on Saturdays and see the colorful addition to our education staff.

The Living Clean & Green series of programs and earth-friendly workshops is designed to provide useable information for making our communities better, more healthy places to live. Programs vary in length and can be presented to your civic group, club or neighborhood association for free. Several of the programs work well with middle and high school students.

Each program outlines environmental issues facing our community, how we impact these issues and what we can do to "lighten the load" we place on the environment. Informational materials are also available. Living Clean & Green! is presented by Ijams Nature Center, Knox County Air Quality Management and the Alcoa Foundation. WBIR Channel 10 is the media sponsor.

Over the last five years, Living Clean & Green educators have conducted 534 programs for 15,238 participants.

Special thanks to all.
